It takes All Of Us: Jets Bills MNF Recap

There’s a saying written in the end zone at Jet Life Stadium, “It Takes All Of Us”. That it does, that’s what we saw last night, and that’s what we’re going to have to focus on for the rest of the season.

Full disclosure, I did not see the hit or play, I was paying my respects at a 9/11 ceremony (never forget). My phone starting buzzing with my group chats saying things like “Jet fans there goes your hope”. My hopeful ass thought “oh man Rodgers must’ve thrown a pick on the first drive here we go again”. Nope, much worse.

The jury is still out on what the deal is and I’m not going to speculate. X Rays came back negative so that’s a plus, but everyone is playing doctor and screaming Achilles which is worst case scenario. All we can do is pray for the best because if there is one thing that’s for sure after watching that game, a quarterback means 11+ wins.

Anyways, I digress.

JET THE FUCK UP BABY WHAT A GOD DAMN WIN HOLY SHIT!!!!!!

So like I talked about above obviously the elephant in the room is the injury. This is the last time I’m going to mention that here until we get confirmation and we chat on a different blog, let’s talk about the game. That was something, what a rollercoaster to kick off the season.

Now, as I mentioned both on our live show and in previous blogs, I was scared of this game truly. I respect and like the Bills and think they’re among the top teams in the league. I think for Bills fans this was a week 1 game with shitty conditions and there is no reason to overreact like everyone is. Josh didn’t play the greatest sure, but there’s still 17 more weeks to capitalize. For Gang Green to come out in prime time on 9/11, lose our prized possession offseason acquisition, and still win this game is a testament to the title of this blog. It takes all of us, and that it did.

First, let’s talk about this defense. You might remember from my hard knocks recaps week in and week out all I was able to say was how much of problem this defense is going to be. And guess what? It was. Coming up big exactly when we needed them to with key 3 and outs towards the end of the game, several interceptions as well as shut down coverage never giving an inch. It was so great to see that carried out in real football and it’s going to be something great to look forward to all season long. If we had 8 under center for more than 4 snaps there’s no telling what the final score of that game would’ve been.

Offensively, we looked good! Some parts messier than others, but honestly in my opinion we looked good. It was proven last night that the Jets have the best running back tandem in the league with Cook and Hall, we knew it would be good but not that good. And that was Breece “not at 100%”, obviously he’s good to go but he’s still healing and “easing” back into shape. 100+ yards and 2 carries, TWO CARRIES!!!!! That’s just un human, this kid is special and is going to carry us forward. Especially now that our passing structure is going to have to drastically change. Cook, while not getting as much action as Hall, looked great too. I didn’t really know what to expect with him coming in but I’m glad we have him and I think we’ll be running the ball down whoever’s throat week in and week out.

I want to talk about the offensive line really quick. They are the reason to blame for 8 going down in my opinion. We knew they’d be a problem, but I didn’t think it was going to be this drastic. 8 aside, even when Zach took over he was under pressure more often then not and never had the chance to make a clean pass. That needs to change and while I’m not too confident in the fact that with less pressure ZW will turn into an all star, he’ll at least have the chance to make some clean passes. Becton played and looked good at times which made me happy, but at other times he and the rest of the line were getting penetrated like Angela White. It’s not entirely their fault, Buffalo has a solid defense themselves, but we need more out of them moving forward before we find ourselves down 2 QBs.

So back to the game, not gonna lie the play was pretty ugly for both teams until things heated up towards the end. My wonderful girlfriend said she felt like she was watching the replacements. As chaotic as the game was, there was a ton of upside, especially going down to the wire. Zach and co drove the field and threw a pass to GW while falling to the ground. GW had no business making that catch but he did, and he scored to tie it up. Jet Life was going bananas and rightfully so, that’s just how good GW is and can be. That catch will be a candidate for catch of the year. A big stop on defense got us the ball back in great positioning but we couldn’t capitalize with a TD. Walked away with 3 points to take the lead. Bills answered and tied it up and into OT we went.

Now, Josh’s OT record is god awful, but it’s Josh Allen so I wasn’t sitting there counting him off entirely. With them winning the toss and getting the ball I was pretty nervous. The fact that we stuffed the bills though again when it matter just stamps this defenses ticket as a top 3 defense in the league. Then came Hard Knocks darling Xavier Gipson. I said this in my finale recap, I’m so happy he made the team and I’m so so so happy we’re utilizing him right where I wanted to. This is the first of many of the season, I don’t know if they’ll necessarily come in such dramatic fashion, but this is the first of many returns to the house. This kid is fast and crafty. Also fuck the announcers, the only asterisks on this win is the fact that Aaron Rodgers played four snaps. That trip was incidental and not a an attempt on a block, what a shit head thing to say.

That was a strong team win to start the season. What happened was tragic, and the news has since been published early today about what happened. Fully planning on writing a blog on that later today so stay tuned. But here’s to looking forward to the remainder of the season, we are far from dead and I personally have a lot of hope moving forward so we will see what happens. Until later today, JET THE FUCK UP
