Disaster In Detroit

These fuckin guys look awful. No life, no heart, just going through the motions these last 2 weeks. No aspect of this team looks good right now, coaching staff, players, everyone looks like dogshit and the blame should go all around. The silver lining? There’s like 130 games left in the season and there’s plenty of time for our Mets to get their heads out of their asses. Some things that stood out to me in the last 2 weeks:

WTF is going on with Max?: I would be lying if I said to you that I wasn’t concerned about Max Scherzer’s recent outings. I’m no Jeremy Hefner, but I can tell you this, velocity is down, innings pitched are down, and the ERA keeps going up. In Spanish we call this: No Bueno. When we signed Max we knew his age, we knew we weren’t getting prime “Mad” Max, and in year 1 overall, with the exception of his last 2 or 3 starts, you can’t tell me Scherzer disappointed us. End of the season? Fine you got me there…but if Max doesn’t shove his way through the summer, grinding out 7 inning outings, that team doesn’t come close to 101 wins. But this year….it’s like the guy fell off a cliff! We have yet to see him have a respectable outing. The closest thing we saw to that was the game he was ejected from, in which he only went 3 innings. So to end this rant, am I worried? Yes. Nothing we have seen in 2023 makes us confident that Max Scherzer will have a positive affect on this season. Do I think this is the end for #21? No. If anyone can overcome a brutal start, and find a way to battle father time, it’s Max Scherzer.

Time to buy stock in the young guys: Brett Baty and Francisco Alverez are going to be a significant part of the future in Flushing, Queens. Both these guys have shown that if you give them consistent at bats night in and night out, they will produce and they will drive in runs and hit with some pop. If Alverez isn’t behind the plate, he should be the DH. There is no excuse to not play both of these kids a minimum of 4 times per week. And while we are on the topic of playing the young guys, can we move Baty up in the batting order? He’s hitting .311 with an .856 OPS, and getting on base in 37% of the time. Let’s stop hiding him on the bottom of the lineup card each night, let this kid hit 5th after Alonso, and drive in some much needed runs!

Starling Marte: Of all of my concerns, this guy might just take the crown at the moment. Marte was an absolute catalyst in this offense last year, and it became evident when he missed the last 5 or so weeks of 2022. What is the problem with this guy? Every at bat in the past 2 weeks has been a fucking joke! Starling Marte has gone from a weapon, to a liability. Seriously not enough people are talking about this. He’s either striking out, or he’s grounding into a double play with runners in scoring position at the end of a tight game. I wish I had some sort of an idea of what’s going on, but I don’t. My friend Bori (@AmishCountryMet on Twitter) believes that Marte is playing hurt, and that any day now we will wake up to the news that he’s being placed on the 15 day IL, and honestly at this point, I can’t really rule that out. The guy just looks like a shell of his usual self, and it’s a problem. Whatever the problem is, if he isn’t hurt, he needs to figure it out, but while that’s happening it’s time to drop him down in the order. The man is an automatic out every time he steps up to the plate, and it’s a detriment to the rest of the lineup. Nimmo starting out with a hit or walk means nothing if Marte is gonna hit a hard grounder right into the shortstop’s glove.

That’s enough bitching for tonight. We have a very bad Colorado Rockies team coming in and the Mets need to win this series. This team has a decision to make, continue to give us lip service about trying to win, or actually going out and doing it. The NL East is red hot, and especially with Bryce Harper back from “Tommy John” surgery, this division isn’t slowing down anytime soon. The turnaround needs to start ASAP, and tomorrow night @ 7:10 PM looks like a great time to do so! LFGM!
