You would think playing hockey in the world’s most famous arena would mean something, but apparently, the boys in blue want to prove us wrong about that. I’m starting this blog off with 2 minutes left in the third hoping that it would do the same as it did with Igor’s shutout and change the narrative but I don’t have a lot of hope. I mean what the fuck man, how are you going to play as flat as we did tonight at home up in the series in a must-win game. Kind of ridiculous but it wouldn’t be Rangers playoff hockey if it was easy right?
Full disclosure, I missed about the first period and a half but I didn’t miss much. All I did was receive texts about how flat we looked and nothing changed since I’ve turned it on. Yup, there’s the empty netter, that’s a wrap. God fucking damn it. “The Rangers have 2 shots on goal after Trochek’s tying goal” Thanks ESPN kindly go fuck yourself and your anti-Rangers broadcast. Rey Ferraro deserved to be traded he sucked and only shitty people hold grudges, that’s a fact, business is business.
Listen, we need to play bully ball. The Devils are a soft team and the Rangers weren’t, but that’s up for debate now. How are you going to let some Swede who’s been laying an egg all series run your goalie the way we did? 10/10 times that needs to be a fight, and there was ZERO pushback. Remember that bad guy persona I was pushing a few weeks ago? Yeah, I’d like to talk to those guys.
Why the fuck can’t we win at home? I’m starting to get really bad vibes myself here with remnants of last year’s Tampa series and we can’t be having that. We are better than this team, tenfold, and we haven’t looked it playing on our own ice. We should be ashamed.
Normally this would the part where I would highlight the positives of our squad, but honestly, in the period and a half I watched I got nothing. I guess I can throw Igor a bone and say he kept us in that game, especially after being shaken up post-run, but hard to praise your goalie after a loss. As a (lax) goalie myself, I know blaming him is never the correct answer and is the last thing you want to do so I absolutely won’t. The PP was non-existent, the D made boneheaded mistakes as usual, and we were just dominated. IN OUR OWN GOD DAMN BUILDING. And honestly, a lot of this falls on the fans who were lucky enough to be there tonight. The Garden was SILENT, **Josh Peck double emphasis** SILENT!!!!!!! How can you watch the way the Knicks games went this weekend and not replicate that atmosphere, it’s honestly pathetic. Oh, and guess what I heard deep into the third while down a goal? That’s right, a rhythmic 5 whistles for a Potvin Sucks, cut it the fuck out, and dial it in.
I am doing my best not to smash the panic button despite what the title/picture of this blog is calling for. Fact of the matter is, there is a lot of hockey left to be played. Also fact of the matter, if we play like we played in games 3 and 4, we’ll be on the golf course come Sunday afternoon. We need to be physical, we need to step on their throats and crush their will. I can’t say I’m entirely confident that we’ll do what needs to be done at The Rock on Thursday, but what other choice do we have? We can’t play at home so we sure as shit better show up on the road.
Whatever, at least now I’ll get to go to my first game of the season in Game 6, hopefully its a day of celebration and not mourning. Until Thursday, let’s try to take some deep breaths and figure it out, I know we have it in us, I’m not ready to give up just yet and I hope you aren’t either. We need this now more then ever – “Just a man and his will to survive” – play the god damn song.
