Not my fuckin week, man. My shitstorm of a story starts with Edwin (Sugar) Diaz collapsing in the WBC, less than a day later we find out he’s out at a minimum of 8 months with a Patellar tendon tear (I’d be lying to you if I told you where that was or what it did), then in the process of trying to talk about the injury on Twitter we run into a glitch that prevents us from setting up a Twitter Space to do so, then on St. Patrick’s day, our overly optimistic and always smiling Center Fielder, Brandon Nimmo slides into second base and can’t get up, ends up getting helped off the field by the training staff. No pretty way to put it, this shit fuckin blows. At the end of the day I’m not God or Elon Musk, so all 3 of these problems are essentially out of my control, but I have a lot of complaints on my mind so you guys are gonna hear about it!
Problem #1: Edwin Diaz going down with an injury at the WBC. If you dont know how this happened I’ll paint a very quick but accurate picture for you based on the videos I witnessed all over social media. Edwin Diaz is pitching for Team Puerto Rico against known rival, The Dominican Republic National Team. Diaz strikes out the side and Puerto Rico pulls off the upset. If you’re reading this and you happen to not be of Puerto Rican/Dominican descent, you may not understand the magnitude of the situation. There is ZERO love lost between both sides and to call them rivals as I did before, is almost an understatement. Moral of the story is that is was a HUGE deal that Puerto Rico not only advanced to the next round of the WBC, but they eliminated the D.R. in the process. In the midst of a celebration, Edwin Diaz somehow goes down with an injury, we later find out it’s a devastating one that essentially ends his 2023 campaign before it even started. Why did this happen? Whether this happened because Diaz tripped over himself mid celebration, or teammates trampled him, leading to his injury, either way it happened, and it didn’t occur due to his job closing out the game. It occurred because of a celebration that went too hard literally seconds after a game ended. I’m emphasizing how this happened because there are multiple talking heads on the radio, and Twitter claiming that this happened because of the WBC and guys should not play in the tournament. Now lets set a record straight, in the event that enough people actually read this blog I don’t want to be taken out of context. I respect the 2 guys I’m talking about very much so, I just hold a different opinion from them and I think they’re being severely short sighted. First of all Edwin got hurt in the process of celebrating, not pitching. Had he struck out the side, pumped his fist and walked back into the dugout high fiving his teammates, we would not be here talking about an injury. I’m not going to go on a rant talking about how great the WBC has been so far and how big a hit it has been outside of the United States, I have stated this in previous blog posts. At the end of the day, If I believe in anything, it’s accountability. If you drink and drive and go flying down the wrong side of the Southern State Parkway is It Budweiser’s fault? Those big beautiful Clydesdales they show off every year at the superbowl in those ads, is it their fault too? Maybe the Bud Knight? No. It’s your fault. You chose what to consume and you chose to put the key in the ignition. Same line of thinking here. It wasn’t a global tournament’s fault Edwin is hurt. He’s hurt because of a celebration and that’s the end of it. Moral of the story, keep your shit together until the end of your season, don’t fuck it up for the rest of us, yourself included.
Problem # 2: Elon, get your shit together, man. I’m trying to grow a website here, and part of that requires using this platform to get conversations going among followers. This Twitter Space shit needs to be figured out. I’m gonna tag you in this post when we throw it on Twitter. I doubt you’ll see it but I gotta try it before I keep bitching about it.
Problem #3: Brandon Nimmo, sheeeeeeeesh. What the fuck Brandon was doing sliding into second base in a spring training game is beyond me, appreciate the effort, but shit. Maybe we just run that one out and say “awww shucks, we’ll get ’em next time!” This was brutal news to open on my phone after eating the delicious corned beef and cabbage dinner my wife prepared for me on St. Patrick’s Day. As I finish typing this at 12:08 AM on March 18th, I can see on the internet that Buck Showalter talked about it in the post game press conference. Things at the moment seem optimistic as Buck claimed that Nimmo “didn’t think it was serious” and he will undergo MRI’s on Monday to determine the issue as team doctors didn’t feel it was necessary to take X-Rays.
Right now, shit definitely sucks for us. Our stud closer is gone till 2024, and only God knows when we can see #9 snagging fly balls again in CF. What we do know it this: we have the best owner in the MLB, and he will stop at nothing to get a World Series Ring. How will we fill these holes? When will these guys come off the Injured List? How much longer will Twitter Spaces fail on me until they finally work again? No clue. But for better or for worse, through sickness and in health, Sunny Days In Flushing will be here to vent/celebrate with you every step of the way, all season long. As always Mets fans, keep the faith, and LFGM!!!
