I cannot begin to tell you how sick this guy makes me feel, my blood just starts to curdle when I hear his name or see that stupid fuckin’ smirk on an NFL sideline. To provide some context here, yes, I am a New York Mets fan but by no means am I a Jets fan as well. My team on Sundays resides in beautiful Downtown Detroit, Michigan. So as I type this, in no way shape or form do I speak for Jets fans, or even this blog as a whole, I speak for myself, a man who’s heart and hopes have been crushed by #12. Us Detroit Lions fans actually have a decent amount in common with Jets fans. If i described a loser, a late season choke artist, a doormat of the NFL, or an absolute laughing stock of an organization, hypothetically, I could be describing either franchise. So save the “you don’t know how it feels” for someone else, maybe a fan of the team that shares a stadium with you, one who has actually seen championships in their lives. Am I one of you guys? No, but do I know what it feels like to be you guys? I sure do. I understand why you’d be optimistic about this entire situation. You have a great defense, a nice young core of guys on offense like Breece Hall, Garrett Wilson, and Corey Davis to name a few. I mean, the jury is still out on Coach Saleh, he’s certainly had his ups and his downs, but a lot of those downs can be accompanied by more than valid excuses. One of them wears #2, and throws beautiful deep passes to guys wearing a different color. Which brings us to our discussion today: Aaron Rodgers.
#12 is absolutely a hall of famer. Rodgers is one of the greatest quarterbacks to ever step foot on an NFL field and regardless of how the rest of his career pans out, wherever it pans out, that’s how he will be remembered. There is no doubt that if Aaron becomes a New York Jet, the team is immediately better. As a Jets fan is very easy to picture a path to the playoffs with Rodgers under center. As for the AFC East? Still a tall task. Although Daboll came downstate to coach a new team, the Bills are still a fuckin’ WAGON, capable of throwing up 30+ points on anyone. Tom Brady may be gone, but as long as “BB” is running the show in Foxborough, you can’t count out the Patriots. The Dolphins are kinda weird and streaky, like the Jets if they can get the QB position figured out, they’re a threat for sure also packing heat dual wielding Jaylen Waddle on one side, and Tyreek Hill on the other. Winning the division isnt impossible by any means, but difficult to say the least. Making the playoffs, however, not as hard. With playoffs expanding to 3 Wild Card teams, its plausible to live in a world where the New York Jets walk in after Week 18 as either a 5th, 6th, or 7th seed. I 100% understand all of the optimism. With Aaron Rodgers you’re not getting some young kid fresh out of school, that you hope can lead an offense down the field and score at will. You know he’s capable of playing at an NFL level and making good decisions with the ball in his hands. The hope of holding the Lombardi at the end of the year is there because you know Aaron’s done it before. You’re not putting your faith in a 20 something year old kid with accountability issues, you’re getting a legend at the position. For all of those reasons I cannot fault a single Jet fan at salivating at the idea of Rodgers playing quarterback for their team. My only warning to you Jets fans, is this: this is very much so, not the same Aaron Rodgers of 2 or 3 years ago. Take it from someone who’s seen #12 in full on “God Mode” year in and year out kicking the shit out of my team on national television, this isn’t the same guy. In Week 18 of 2022, with the playoffs on the line, he came out and laid an egg against the Detroit Lions. He let rookie Kerby Joseph pick him off twice (one got called back for a nonsense defensive holding on the opposite side of the field). He played some of the worst football of his career that night against a team he had previously owned for the entirety of his career. Detroit had literally nothing to play for, they were eliminated from playoff contention earlier that night with the Seahawks win just an hour prior to kickoff. In the season’s biggest moment, where the lights were shining their brightest, Rodgers imploded, with the whole country watching. There’s a reason the Packers are so willing to move on from him and try a QB that’s been riding their bench for 3 seasons now. Am I saying I think Rodgers is trash and can’t play anymore? Absolutely not. What I am saying is I think collectively, the Jet’s fan base is falling in love with the guy they saw highlights of on ESPN every Monday morning for the past decade, but not the current version. A guy who went on a “darkness retreat” (whatever the fuck that was, seriously this guy is a fuckin WEIRDO) only to come back to an organization that didn’t want him anymore, and from what we have seen and heard, not a super long list of potential suiters.
Listen, at the end of the day, 99% of the people reading this are likely New York Jets fans, as is my fellow blogger on this website, Jerry, as are most of my friends that I grew up around. Do I hope this works out? Of course I do. I run a blog based around New York sports, of course I want one of them, if not all, to succeed. But I can’t just smile and tell you everything’s gonna be fine and dandy. I have legitimate concerns for this entire situation and I felt strong enough about them to tell you about it. Hey, if 10 months from now the Jets are gearing up for the playoffs, and Rodgers is in the running to win his 5th MVP award of his career, God Bless him and you Jets fans, and I’m happy to wear the egg on my face and tell write all about how wrong I was and silly I was to have doubted the great, Aaron Rodgers. But until then, we wait and see. Jets fans I wish you nothing but the best, and we will see all of you in a few weeks as the draft rolls around! #TakeFlight
